Civil War History Day Trip: Wednesday, November 13

All are invited to join the Inter-Faith Fellowship on a day trip to Monocacy National Battlefield in Frederick County and the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in downtown Frederick.  The group will meet at The Chapel on Wednesday, November 13 at 9:30 am to carpool.  There is a $8.00 charge per person for admission to the museum.  RSVP by submitting the form below and paying by November 7.

The first stop, Monocacy National Battlefield, was the site of battle on July 9, 1864.  While not a large or particularly well-known battle, it had an impact much larger than many know.  The Confederates were victorious on the battlefield but were delayed on their assault on Washington, DC.  By the time General Jubal Early’s troops advanced on the nation’s capital, Federal reinforcements had arrived.  Because of this, the Battle of Monocacy has forever been known as “The Battle That Saved Washington.”

After visiting the battlefield, the group will enjoy lunch in downtown Frederick and then have a guided one hour tour of the National Museum of Civil War Medicine.  Follow in the footsteps of soldiers and surgeons to discover the harsh conditions, personal sacrifices, and brilliant innovations of Civil War medicine, innovations that continue to save lives today.
