From its beginning 50 years ago, The Inter-Faith Chapel has held a long standing commitment to missions. The commission to reach out to others in need and to be the Church beyond these walls remains central to our ministry. We are currently engaged in over forty local, national, and global missions. The Missions Committee is responsible for planning and coordinating the mission support program and strives to involve the entire congregation in many of these outreach and service opportunities. Through these mission partnerships, The Inter-Faith Chapel provides opportunities to promote justice and to meet the real needs of our community, country, and world.
In 2016, the programs are focused on hunger, homelessness/ poverty, the disabled, health, and hospice care. Each September, the committee reports annual giving by charity to the congregation.
In June 2017, the committee visited Shepherd's Table, an organization in Silver Spring that provides hot, nutritious meals for those in need, in addition to clothing, counseling, eye care, and other support services. The Chapel supports Shepherd's Table through financial and bi-monthly casserole donations. In addition, missionaries Eve and Mike Brooks from Wycliffe Bible Translation spoke to the committee to explain their ministry in West Timor. The group teaches people to read God's word in their mother tongue language. The Chapel donates to Eve and Mike who have served 21 years in Indonesia and Africa.
