From its beginning over 50 years ago, The Inter-Faith Chapel has held a long standing commitment to missions. The commission to reach out to others in need and to be the Church beyond these walls remains central to our ministry. We are currently engaged in over forty local, national, and global missions. The Missions Committee is responsible for planning and coordinating the mission support program and strives to involve the entire congregation in many of these outreach and service opportunities. Through these mission partnerships, The Inter-Faith Chapel provides opportunities to promote justice and to meet the real needs of our community, country, and world.
The programs are focused on hunger, homelessness/ poverty, the disabled, health, and hospice care. Each September, the committee reports annual giving by charity to the congregation.
The Missions Committee supports Shepherd's Table, an organization in Silver Spring that provides hot, nutritious meals for those in need, in addition to clothing, counseling, eye care, and other support services. Chapel missions funds also help support Interfaith Works, a non-sectarian interfaith coalition of more than 165 affiliated congregations of diverse faiths, working together to meet the needs of the poor and homeless in Montgomery County. Interfaith Works helps individuals and families lift themselves from poverty and homelessness.
